Happy Halloween!

Hell yeah! I had a pretty good day off today. I woke up super late, but still managed to go out and get stuff for my Halloween costume. Up until last night I didn't really have an idea of what I was going to be, but I decided to go as Mr. White from Reservoir Dogs. After scouring stores for a little while I was able to find camouflage Berettas at K-Mart. Thank God, because I did not want to have to go into my attic looking for an old toy gun. The Berettas sealed the deal that a character from the Tarantino classic was a good choice. Had I been forced to go in search of a pretty solid looking old Uzi that's up there somewhere, I was just going to go as a bank robber. This hinged on whether or not I could find a cheap monkey mask. Like the rubber band kind preferrably, but I would have gone to a rubber mask if I had to. If I couldn't find a decent looking gun, I would have just gotten a plastic knife and gone as The Monkey Mask Killer.

It was really hard finding realistic looking toy guns in stores. All the guns nowadays are like space guns. It was frustrating because I was looking for street guns. I first went to Toys'r'Us and all they had were NERF guns. Also no monkey masks of any type. Then I went to Spencer's gifts and that was horrible. They had this crappy faux haunting music playing and the mask selection was really lacking. Inside the mall kids were going store to store trick or treating. Inside the mall! That's something new. Thank God for this one young lady at a hairstylist place that was handing out candy as Catwoman.

Anyway, then I went to K-Mart and bought the twin Ruffstuff Electronic Blasters. Ruffstuff is like a hardcore division of BuzzBeeToys. These are great replicas. I bought some flat black Krylon and spraypainted them so they look more real. Now, I've just gotta find a good skinny black tie. That's one thing I noticed looking at pictures of the Reservoir Dogs guys. They had skinny ties.

This party I'm going to on Saturday should be really fun, if I can get there early enough in the night. I hope we don't get decimated on Saturday night because I'd like to be at the party by 11:30 at the latest. Well, I can't wait to see what happens. My boy Ed and I were thinking of going as referees but I couldn't find the shirt. Plus, I went out today really leaning towards a robber or some kind of armed prankster.
Tomorrow night I have to work, but then I'm going to a different Halloween party down the street with a few of the open micrphone guys. There better be chicks at these two parties. So far all the chicks who will be at the party on Saturday including the ones throwing the party are taken. Screw it though, I'm really looking forward to both parties.

Damn, today in my travels I forgot to look for a tape adapter to hook my iPod up in the car. I must get one tomorrow when I go to pay my Old Navy bill.

I think I'm going to listen to this album from now until Sunday afternoon. It's definitely not music that you want to hear all the time, but sometimes it really just hits the spot and this weekend will be such a time.
Here's a link to download the album. I found it on a forum just now after realizing that I had in in seperate files and didn't feel like uploading.
Here are the best tracks. Sure to start your Halloween weekend off right.
Stabbed in the Face (the single!)
Village Oblivia (hands down the best track! Sotoughohmygod!)
Black Vomit (I like this one too)
This album makes your life a horror movie and that's what I really like about it. Try it today, won't you?

So since last time I wrote I went on a bit of an album binge. I got a bunch of stuff that is pretty good, including the new Cold War Kids and Jay Reatard. The new Jay Reatard, which is a collection of his singles from '06 and '07 is super great. You can download it from the link provided. That site, Indieducky has tons of reviews and downloads of albums by today's toppest young stars. I got CWK and the new Delta Spirit album from there. The Delta Spirit, at least what I've heard at work is really cool. I've got to make time to listen to the whole thing soon.
So today I should be looking for a job, but I'd sooner put a gun to my head. My friend at work was telling me how her friend did that when he was like 15 and that's really sad. She said he was her best friend too so that sucks for her.
Last night I went to the restaurant to hang out with my friends while they closed. We had a pretty good time just talking about dating, concerts, music and religion. We were talking about Scientology and how fucked up that is. Maybe I'll get sued now.
Damn, I've got two Halloween parties to go to this weekend and I have no idea what to go as. Like I don't really want to spend any money on anything, not even a green wig. Oh well, whatever. Last night while we were hanging out my friend was saying how she saw Leprechaun In Da Hood too and how she thought it was funny. It kind of was.
Anyway, not much to write at this point. Check this video of photoshop goodness just in time for all hallows eve.

Horror movies

So since last time I really wrote, some crazy shit has gone down. Work has been really fun and this past week the high jinx were never higher or jinxier!

Exciting drama at the beginning of the week followed by days filled with laughing and rocking out.

Let me see, the last night I worked was Thursday night and that was pretty chill. We weren't that busy, but i really wasn't feeling well at the beginning of the night so that was alright. Thursday was open mic and I was curious about various factors of how that would be. Who would be there? Would they be cool? I still had these two dudes who were drinking coffees forever so I had to hang out. That's the biz, I guess. Finally, the band start playing and everything was cool. The dudes left and then I left for a second only to come back and find that the place had almost completely cleared out. It was really surreal. Like I'm thinking for a second, wondering if I somehow lost track of an hour. It was really Twilight Zone like. But my one pain in the ass friend was there and that kind of started to make things suck. I feel bad for the dude because he's pretty much fucked for life, but still. So that was a bag of suck. Still though I was working with cool people and that made closing fun and efficient.

The next day I just emailed people and then went to get my tire fixed. I had been rolling my fullsize spare since I got back from NY in early August. It only cost fifteen bucks to patch it up. I should have done it sooner. Then I went and picked up Ryan and Jess to go to Baltimore. This was really fun because traffic was really messed up in our entire area. There was this armed robbery/ high speed chase/ shootout with the cops that had the highways shut down. This meant that every light in the entire area; Lemoyne, Camp Hill, Mechanicsburg had what Seth Charles would call "stacking".

I'm not being sarcastic when I say that it was fun though. Where I live traffic isn't typically bad at all really ever, so when it is suddenly really bad, you get to go into crazy cabbie mode and use all of your little tricks and shortcuts. We bypassed all of Market St. in Camp Hill by going up into the quiet neighborhoods. Then I came over the hill right by where my Grandma used to live. Hell Yeah! We went from the bypass to 17th st. in like five minutes. Jess has one of those tapes that you can put in your tapedeck to play your iPod, so we were cranking tunes the whole time. I've got to get one of those. I never looked into car iPod accessories because I always thought you had to tune in with your radio, which I've seen be troublesome.

Luckily the highway we had to take to Baltimore was open and traffic was fine. I think we got to Baltimore in an hour flat thanks to me being one of America's 50 most solid road drivers. Ryan drove back and we made it back really fast too. We listened to Werewolves and Lollipops and those two loved it. We continued the party back at Ryan's until about 4:30. Then I came home made a pizza, didn't eat it and passed out. Great night!!!!!

Today I woke up sort of early. I called Ryan and went over there. I guess it's the season but we've been watching a lot of horror movies lately. The Exorcist was the last one and I think Jess liked it, but Ryan and I having only seen the rerelease, were miffed at the lack of crabwalk. I've been watching horror on my own too. I've started Friday the 13th part 6 like four times, but never finish it. That movies is, uh not so good, but today the three of us watched the worst movie ever made in any genre. Leprachaun In The Hood.

This movie is an affront to everybody alive. Ice T is in it, Ryan said he loves the Leprechaun movies, it was raining like a bitch, so we were like "OK, let's check it out." Damn. I had never seen any movie from the series, so I didn't know that the Leprechaun could be turned to stone by his little amulet. Twice in the movie at key times, it's placed on his neck by somehow blowing up into the air, spreading out and landing perfectly around his neck. I don't think anyone could do that if they tried, let alone once in Harlem and then later in South Central. I didn't know where the heck the first scene took place (where a dude gets his afro pick jammed in his neck) but I just found an online script (Ryan will be psyched!)!!!!! http://www.lepconnie.com/scriptlep5.html. Anyway, then Ice T's character blasts the Leprechaun with steam instead of giving him back his magic flute and the steam blows the amulet up into the air and it falls around his neck and he turns into wood. Then Mack Daddy, Ice T's character moves to Compton or wherever and starts his own rap label.

Long story short! Postmaster P and his boys Stray Bullet and Butch are a rap group. They are all about the postive message, but when Mack Daddy won't give them a record deal they decide to rob his place and trash it. This is how the Leprechaun gets free. They piss off Mack Daddy. Leprechaun is after them because they steal his flute away from Mack Daddy. They try to pawn a guitar to afford new equipment and when they can't they just throw it in a dumpster. Leprechaun breaks Ice T's right index finger off yet he still shoots a gun with that hand for the rest of the movie. The DJ for the rap group knows all this chemistry shit and at one point set the Leprechaun on fire by mixing douche and toothpaste on a towel and then hooking it up to electricity. He gets fucked up from that but somehow magically heals. Every single black stereotype ever is highlighted and the heroes, after reading Leprechauns For Dummies, dress as hoes to get the Leprechaun to smoke a joint with them that has four leaf clovers in it.

At one point a cross dressing dude named Fontaine even tries to seduce the Leprechaun and gets killed! When they smoke the joint with the clovers it makes the Lep pass out and they steal the flute back. They need to flute to make people like their rap songs. Mack Daddy's shows up and kills Butch and then they do whatever leads the amulet to go up into the air and come down on Leprechaun's neck. But Postmaster P made some kind of deal with him so it cuts to him on a stage in Vegas where he's rapping and the crowd loves him even though he's just repeating the same dumbass rhyme over and over. Then it cuts to the side of the stage and the Leprechaun is there so you know he's ruling shit. Then Leprechaun raps, then his zombie fly girls sing a reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaally uncomfortably stupid song and the movie's over.

I think throughout the movie we all looked at each other like, "What?" about two hundred times. Some scenes were just downright terrible where others you could tell were intentionally funny and OK. Early in the movie Mack Daddy pulls a switchblade, then a small baseball bat out of his fro. That sets you up for a comedy, but there was really no other funny stuff for pretty much the whole movie. It was ridiculous!!!

Anyway, then I watched some of Shaun of The Dead and that made up for how sucky the previous movie was.

Damn, we've been listening to this a ton at work and it's killing. MGMT - Electric Feel

NOFX at Rams Head in Baltimore

So last night Ryan, Jess and I went to see NOFX and four opening bands at Rams Head Live in Baltimore and it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I haven't seen a punk band in a club in a long time and it's almost such a great experience that you can never hang on to the memory of all the fun. It would take up too much of your brain.
First of all the place that we saw them was Rams Head Live which is right in inner harbor pretty much. The nicest thing for us was that you just stay on 83 take one exit and make a right and you're parking your car. The venue itself could not have been cooler. It seemed like they had 10 separate bars on three levels. I didn't count or even go to the third level, but that's how it seemed. You could see the stage from almost anywhere and they also had many TV screens scattered throughout as well. Really great place, and drinks were cheap for a show where you're pretty much captive. I took advantage of that and even managed to pass one or two off to J-dog.

The band played a ton of killer songs including Dinosaurs Will Die, which I was psyched to hear and they did a killer cover of Rancid's Radio too. They seemed to be having fun, but did, at some point, sort of make fun of the wishy washy Baltimore crowd. The coolest thing for me and Ryan was that we were running into friends from here and there throughout the night. Even some of Ryan's Jersey buddies were there, which surprised him. Anyway, wish I had gotten some pics in retrospect, but I didn't take my camera because I didn't know how wild shit would get. I was smoking a cig outside and got to say hi to Fat Mike right as he was heading from the bus to the stage, so that was cool.
I don't think I'll ever miss NOFX again if they come around. The show was fucking excellent and they have terrific fans who know how to have fun.

Hee hee heew!

I haven't posted much lately, but figure that I will now because I'm just chilling. Tonight I worked and it was really fun. I'm really having fun finally getting to know my other coworkers besides just the one manager. We have so much fun every night, listening to tunes and cracking wise. Being really busy can still kind of suck, but it makes the night go faster, so that's not really that bad. It still sucks though.

Oh yeah, I totally fucked up and didn't go to see KRS last Saturday night. Total chump move, but at the time I just didn't feel like it. I didn't have tickets, had no idea what time it started etc. So that was lame. Earlier this week I sent a Youtube video to my dad where KRS is dissing all the rich rappers saying that they're too rich to make raw hip hop. My dad totally went off on him, because my dad kind of doesn't know shit sometimes.

My friend down in Delaware, or I guess now, Virginia Beach, texted me last night asking if I wanted a Corgi puppy. Corgis are so fucking rad! I want a baby one!
Killer episode of The Best Show this week. Great Philly Boy Roy call too os. Just a great show all the way around, but I will really miss Julie's calls. New regime, I guess. I can't wait for Paul F. Tompkins to be on next week. I bet he'll be on the show a lot more now that he's based in NY. I think he's going to kill it as host of Best Week Ever. I never really watch that show but I'm thinkin' bout startin'. That was some Sarah Palin downhome can do spirit! God, I hope everyone votes against her. She will make a terrible president and I think that's the reality. President or not, I'm saying watch John McCain not make it to 2012. It's just a feeling that I have. Also, I think Barack Obama will be assassinated. For reals.

The Exorcist

Today, I chilled for a little while at home and then went over to Ryan's. He was showing me GTA 4 and it was badass. Then he, Jess, Walter and I watched The Exorcist, which was class. I hadn't seen it in a really long time and the version I saw had some extra added creepy stuff in it, which this one lacked. Anyway, then I just headed home.

I was messing with the radio feature in iTunes tonight because I wanted to see if I could find Coast To Coast, but didn't find it. I did find this really awesome oldies channel though called K- LUV, which is under Hits of the 70's, 80's and '90s. Anyway, on the channel I heard Ricky Nelson's song Young Emotions, so that lead me to seek out the song for download. Well, I stumbled across an awesome, amazing set of blogs!

This one focuses on compilations!

This one focuses on the '90s!!

(I'm listebning to the Scatman John right now and I think it's time people gave this a chance. I am not even kidding.)

This one is about the modern age!

From the above links you can find their other blogs for the '60s, 70s and '80s! Total overload. I'm still just looking around, but I'm loving what I've found so far.

Yes

I was finally able to download iTunes 8 today after about 10 unsuccessful tries in the past three weeks. I was getting an error message and then cancelling, when I should have just been patient and let the installer do its thing. This is good, because I was hoping to bring a new iPod into this world pretty soon and I didn't think, with it being a newer generation Nano, that it would work with an older version of iTunes. So I am relieved.

Not much to write about lately. I've been working for the past few days and that has been superfun and I made killer money on Monday, so that was awesome. Ahhh, going to work. That's one of my core values right there. At work we've been listening to The Shins Wincing the Night Away and the new Kings Of Leon a bunch. I guess a bunch of the guys are going to see Cold War Kids later this month in Philly, but I haven't heard their new album. The other night there were all these businessmen who were drinking a ton, so we ended up being there super late. It was just my managers and I and the DJ and we were doing our closing duties and they had the new Ben Folds on. I haven't paid attention to Ben Folds in a long time, but the GM told me a story about how he actually met them years back when they were just starting to get a following. Pre Brick.

So today's my day off and I'm just catching up with emails and about to listen to last night's Best Show. You can click on the link to the right and hear it too. I'll probably write more later.

weekend

Well, fall has begun here and so far it's pretty cool. I found out the other day that I'm going to see KRS-ONE next weekend in the 'burg. I haven't been downtown in so long, but I really want to see the teacher. Ryan and I were just talking last weekend about how awesome KRS is, but Ryan has never heard Live Hardcore Worldwide, so he has no idea how great KRS is live. Anyway, it actually worked out where I'm off next Saturday night, so there's no way I'm missing that even if I have to go alone. Then two weeks later I'm going with the homies to see NOFX at Ram's Head in Baltimore.

Work is going good and I'm making more money each night that I go in, so that's really awesome. Especially after my horrible attempt to get a new job the other day which I can't remember if I mentioned on the blog. Anyway, I drove 170 miles for no reason all before two in the afternoon. All for nothing because I had to turn around and go to work before I even found the place I was looking for! So that sucked!
